Wow!
It was quite the chore finding a lap swimming suit!
I guess maybe it has been a while....16 years!
I finally found one...didn't fit the best...but I squeezed into it! =)
My goggles were a bit worn....okay totally shot!
I ran to the local sports store (which thankfully we have one now), and picked up a pair of goggles!
I was ready to go for my first swim!
I just happened to mention to my oldest daughter, on my way out, that I was going to go swim a mile! (I wasn't planning on actually swimming a mile)
But she laughed at me!
"I don't think so mom! You don't swim!"
Well, from there it went like this...
Me..."Honey, I can swim!"
B..."a mile?...no way! How many laps is that? 10?"
Me..."72 (I think)!"
Then she ran downstairs laughing....telling Dad that I think I can swim a mile!
I was getting in way over my head!
But you can guarantee...I was not coming home until I had swam 72 laps!
Said "Good Bye" to all the crying kids...."We want to swim too!"
It was 9:00 at night...they probably should have already been in bed!
As I am driving away...Brooke comes running out..."Remember, 72 laps without stopping!"
BUMMER!
I was looking forward to a few stops!
I DID IT!
I swam a mile....No stops....41 minutes!
I know that is slow...but HEY! I DID IT!
I am super excited about swimming and biking....(well, I think I am excited about biking)! I really feel that this is what I need to help my running. I get injured so quickly, that this will be great cross training. That is how I first started to swam ....back in that day! I swam for training in college!
Oh by the way if you have interest in a home yoga video...I am giving one away on my family blog!
I love to do yoga...I feel like it helps me a ton! I don't live in a big city and so I have found some videos that I feel are super good and challenging!
You look terrified in that pic.
ReplyDeleteDont you love the motivation, probably didnt plan on swimming a mile, but you did due to some motivation. (though you cant train like that all the time for a tri, you just wear yourself into the ground)
Now I feel like swimming! I happen to know I couldn't do a mile though :). So very impressive! My kids so want to swim though . . . but 70 degrees doesn't qualify for outdoor swim weather - although they think so. :) Brrr!
ReplyDeleteLove your headstrong ways! Great job on the swim. It will feel comfortable and faster before you know it.
ReplyDeleteNice work Sherri!! You still got it:) Swimming for one mile is something that I can't do....and you did it without stopping!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the swim! I've started swimming recently but I haven't managed a mile yet!
ReplyDeleteAwesome job on swimming a mile! :)
ReplyDeleteyeah!! you did it! I am so jealous of anyone who can train at the moment, cough, hack. Your daughter is funny, that made me laugh. Kind of like when my son told me I was "soft, like Jell-O". Nice, is this how I raised you?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You should be so proud of yourself!!
ReplyDeleteHilarious story and you look great in the photo!
Great job on your swim...kids are great :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great that you swan a mile!! Congrats:-)!
ReplyDelete41 miles to swim a mile after not swimming for 16 years is NOT slow, girl!! Wow!! I DO swim (well, I don't swim as much as I want, but I am more a natural swimmer than a runner...I just can't stand it anymore) and I probably don't swim much faster (but I spend a lot of time just kicking). I like your suit, very cute :). Way go to on the swim!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat swim. That's a LOT of laps!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! I too started swimming and biking because I kept getting injuries from running too much (or maybe too hard?)It has helped me a ton! Good luck! BTW cute kids!
ReplyDeleteYou are beautiful! I love the look of "ummmmm" on your face! That is so how I would look, too! Your kids (2 of the 5 in your pics!) are precious, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud of you! 1 mile without stopping! You are awesome!
aloha!
ReplyDeletei think I've missed the whole 'I think i wanna do a triathlon' post from you as I've been in hawaii. and now...right on! and where??
and really, you have got to be proud of an entire 1 mi swim in 41. you go girl;-)
Swimming a mile! That is really good! I'm very impressed. The cross training will help a lot.
ReplyDeleteYou make me miss swimming! I'm proud of you for swimming a mile. :) In high school I would always tell my PE teacher that I'd rather swim a mile than run one, but right now, I think it's the other way around! lol
ReplyDeleteHOLY MOLY I'M SO PROUD OF YOUR SWIM! I ALSO AM CROSS TRAINING BECAUSE I'VE HAD A FOOT INJURY FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS NOW. I'VE STARTED BIKING. TONIGHT MY SON WANTED TO RACE. SCARY...HE'S FIT...I'M NOT. I TOOK HIM ON. I KNOW IT NEVER EVEN CROSSED HIS MIND THAT I WOULD EVEN BE COMPETITION...I WON! I HURT BAD. I'M AFRAID TO WAKE UP TOMORROW...OOWWEE. TEE HEE, BUT I WON. I BETTER SAVER THE MOMENT I'M SURE HE WON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN.
